reading wrapped

books I read in 2024, and what I thought abt them:

For personal:

dune ★★★★☆

the journey this book has taken to finish oh my god. now is it good? yes ofc. did it take me genuinely 3 years to read because I kept putting it down cause it killed my want to read because it is so damn long? also yes. at the end of the day I'm glad I read it, and id like to try to tackle some of the other books in the original series (they look shorter!).

the myth of Sisyphus ★★★★★

my favorite book of the year, and in my top 10 of all time, maybe top 5. this book was so so so good, I loved every moment of reading it. it provokes such interesting thought. I was kinda insufferable after reading this book, cause I wouldn't stfu abt it for like 2 weeks. would love to reread in 2025!

I have no mouth, and I must scream ★★★★☆

fire short story for science fiction lovers. felt quite applicable for modern day, follows an AI that has taken over the world, and keeps 5 humans alive for ever in eternal hell type shit. the audiobook experience for this one is completely worth it, its free on youtube!

the virgin suicides ★★★★☆

this was pretty good! follows the deaths of 5 sisters. I really enjoyed this read, and I read it in the summer witch was fun. this one is definitely the most heavy, out of the books on this list, so read a description before jumping it! haven't gotten around to the movie, but I rly want to see it too!

heavan ★★★★☆

this was good! I like it quite a lot. it was a slice of life, following these two Japanese preteens/teens, and focused on the bullying they faced at the hands of their classmates. and also the bond that was created within their friendship through this time. beautifully written, it also had good pacing (if a little slow at times, #2 book of the year!)

girl, interrupted ★★★★☆

the most recent book I finished. I liked it, glad I read it. it was definitely more unique, and a autobiography of this lady in a psych ward in the 60s ish (I don't remember). I enjoyed reading it, and idrk what else to say, id recommend it ig :)

the perks of being a wallflower ★★★☆☆

this was good! felt it was kinda over hyped. I do believe it is better than the movie, and interesting overall. I just didn't really take anything away from the story. idk lol

girls against god ★★☆☆☆

just was not for me, don't really remember what it is abt, I don't even think I finished the book. I liked the authors style, rambling thoughts, almost stream of consciousness, I just didn't enjoy the content that much.

dead poets society ★★★☆☆

again, pretty ok read. the movie was definitely 100% better than the book here, but that is because the book is just a copy paste of the movie, written after the movies release. could have gone just watching the movie here.

For school:

1. hedda gabbler ★★★★☆

2. king lear ★★★★☆

3. chronical of a death foretold ★★★★☆

4. things fall apart ★★★☆☆

5. life of pi ★★★☆☆
